JOB DESCRIPTION:

 

The Associate Director of IT Infrastructure and Security is responsible the IT infrastructure of The Carter Center, which includes on premise networking in Atlanta, Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure, and IT security. This person will directly supervises network and security engineers in Atlanta and provides design guidance and thought leadership on infrastructure and security issues for The Carter Center as a whole. This position requires a deep understanding of networks, security, telecommunications, databases, and storage systems. It also requires a deep understanding of the Azure cloud ecosystem. Other related technologies include SonicWall, Aruba, Meraki, and HP. Due to the travel locations, Hostile Environment Awareness Training (HEAT) may be required.

 

FORMAL JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Plans, organizes, and oversees the information technology infrastructure and security for a global nonprofit.
  • Includes planning for and acquisition, installation, and maintenance of hardware and software systems required to meet the organization's information technology needs.
  • Oversees incident response activities, risk assessment and risk management activities and vulnerability assessment and vulnerability management activities.
  • Maintains awareness of the latest trends in infrastructure and security.
  • Provides guidance and assistance regarding information security matters such as the interpretation of information security policies and requirements or their applicability to particular situations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to discuss technical matters clearly and effectively with people who do not have a technical background.
  • Responsible for supervision of network engineers, cloud engineers and security engineers.
  • Drafts and reviews applicable policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Maintains professional growth and development of self and staff by identifying educational/training programs, professional organizations, activities, and resources to maintain knowledge of national trends and to promote leading edge expertise.
  • Participates in relevant technical and NGO organizations.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • May require international travel.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field and seven years of technical applications or IT experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Networking and security certifications are a plus (e.g. SANS/GIAC, CISSP, CISA, CISM , CCNA, etc.).

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Demonstrated ability in building and leading high performing, customer centric technology teams.
  • Solid track record of promoting engagement, collaboration, and coordination across multiple teams to successfully meet business needs and achieve priority projects.
  • Proven experience in improving operational efficiencies, service delivery capabilities, and information technology management capabilities.
  • Familiarity with CIS Controls security framework a plus.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work.  Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
