Reporting to the Head of Software Development, the Front-End Developer will contribute to the theming, branding and development of interfaces for the libraries' web sites, discovery products and the institution's preservation repository.

The Library Technology and Digital Strategies department is seeking to hire a Front-End Developer I OR Front-End Developer II. The level of position offered will be determined based on the selected candidate’s qualifications.




Front-End Developer I:

  • Develops, codes, configures and tests web interfaces that make services and resources accessible and discoverable.
  • Assists in developing applications specifications and in providing support for customer applications.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


Front-End Developer II:

  • Develops and maintains interfaces for products and systems that make services and resources accessible and discoverable.
  • Implements and provides customer support of user interfaces.
  • Assists in analyzing and resolving problems resulting from fixes and upgrades.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.



  • Front-End Developer I: A bachelor's degree in Information Technology OR two years of information technology related experience. Positions in this classification may require a knowledge of one or more programming languages and/or a knowledge of an application and application tools.

  • Front-End Developer II: A bachelor's degree and three years of experience in front-end development, web design, or a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Positions in this classification may require a knowledge of one or more programming languages and/or a knowledge of an application and application tools.

Preferred Qualifications (Both Levels)

  • Experience with configuring and maintaining Drupal.
  • Experience with CSS, HTML5, Javascript and Bootstrap
  • Familiarity with Blacklight and/or Samvera Community gems and applications.
  • Experience working on Open-Source software projects or with remote collaborators.
  • Familiarity and desire to work with agile methods.
  • Familiarity with version control, test-driven development, continuous integration techniques and other development best practices.
  • Experience working in a library environment.
  • Evidence of capacity for professional development, involvement, and contribution.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as analytical and organizational skills.


Please note: This is a 3-year term limited position that has the possibility of extending beyond based on grant funding.


NOTE: Tasks related to this position can be performed remotely with only occasional supported visits to an Emory University location.  Emory reserves the right to change this status with notice to employee.
