The Office of Global Strategy and Initiatives (GSI) and its reporting divisions work to enhance and promote Emory’s global engagement. GSI supports creative global initiatives, cultivates cross-unit collaboration, promotes a culturally dynamic and diverse campus, and coordinates Emory's international resources and partnerships.



  • Primary duties are organizing, coordinating, and planning operational facets of a program and its related activities which include, but are not limited to the following: establishing long-term operational objectives, researching factors that may impact the success of the program, and working with individuals or groups to research and document program requirements in order to provide appropriate input into the development of strategic plans.
  • Develops work plans to accomplish program goals and objectives and monitors progress toward their achievement.
  • Conducts research and gathers information to develop various publications.
  • Develops promotional materials which may include content for reports, briefings, newsletters, grants or other written information related to the program.
  • Assists in developing and coordinating program-related conferences, conventions, or meetings.
  • Monitors expenditures and may participate in the budget planning process and prepare financial reports.
  • May assist in identifying funding resources and developing fund-raising strategies and initiatives.
  • Prepares operational and statistical reports. Conducts training, represents the program at meetings and conferences, and networks with affiliated groups.
  • May supervise assigned project staff, interns and/or volunteers.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.
  • This is not an administrative support position.


  • The Program Coordinator (PC) supports the administration and implementation of GSI’s Global Safety and Security initiatives focused on international travel for staff, faculty, and students.
  • The PC actively promotes and markets global safety and security initiatives across campus.
  • Assists with research related to global safety and security and analyses of travel to high-risk locations.
  • Coordinates with departments to cross-train and deliver safety and security trainings to international travelers.
  • Manages global safety and security monitoring processes and resources and related reporting and file maintenance.
  • Supports traveler assistance in the event of an international incident or crisis.
  • Monitors current events and health, safety, and security developments affecting international travel, with a particular focus on those that could impact Emory travel and activities abroad.
  • Engages with and participates in relevant professional networks.
  • Creates agendas and schedules, including those involving the Director of Global Safety and Security and their travel abroad.


  • Bachelor's degree in a field related to the program and two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.


  • Demonstrates a high level of overall quality and professionalism in their work, sensitivity to the cultural considerations that international work can involve, and support of GSI’s commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural awareness as expressed in its Values Statement.
  • Strong customer service skills as well as excellent written and oral communication abilities.
  • Prior experience with risk management and supporting international travel interest in global safety and security.
  • Working knowledge of International SOS or similar health and security providers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365, Slack, and Zoom.

NOTE: Position tasks are generally required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location. Remote work from home day options may be granted at department discretion. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
