A new lead research specialist position is available in the laboratory of Renee Read in the Department of Pharmacology and Chemical Biology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia USA. Successful applicants will join our diverse and collaborative translational research team to study the genetics and biology of pediatric and adult glioblastoma.   This position will involve carrying out experiments as well as acting as lab management. Our research program uses a multidisciplinary approach to analyze how developmental cell-signaling pathways interface with mutant variants of receptor tyrosine kinases in glial tumorigenesis and glial development. Our approach uses several brain tumor model systems, including human patient-derived human glioblastoma stem cells and tissues, novel human organoid tumor models, and genetic animal models of glioblastoma. Job duties will include experiments with cell culture models and animal models of brain cancer, handling laboratory equipment installation and repairs, preparing and organizing biological samples and reagents in the lab. The new research specialist will train with Dr. Read, collaborators, and senior staff, and will carry out projects and duties under the supervision of Dr. Read and her lab members. Members of our lab will have opportunities to learn more about therapeutics, neural stem cell biology, epigenetics, functional genomics, and bioinformatics in team oriented projects that involve collaborations with other neuro-oncology research groups in the Departments of Neurosurgery, Pediatrics, Pathology, and Human Genetics.   More information about the research goals and current members of the lab can be found at www.reneereadlab.org   Competitive candidates will have a background in neurobiology, stem cell biology, or genetics. Previous experience in neural stem cell culture, neuro-anatomy, Drosophila neuro-genetics, and/or related areas is preferred.
