We are seeking a highly-motivated Assistant Scientist / Lead Research Specialist to join a team of scientists studying precision medicine in pediatric/young adult cancers. This individual will help the principal investigator, Dr. Hong, to help manage the lab and engage in the discovery and validation of novel candidate cancer genes and therapeutic targets for cancer using techniques such as CRISPR-Cas9 and other gene editing techniques. Some of the cancers involved include kidney and brain cancers such as Wilms Tumor and Atypical Teratoid/ Rhabdoid Tumor, as well as other rare pediatric cancers. The successful candidate will help manage lab operations (from ordering to maintaining equipment) with Dr. Hong, help with manuscript / grant preparation, and perform laboratory studies to help trainee projects along.
Some techniques will include performing DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, Western blotting, conventional and recombinational cDNA subcloning, cell and tissue culture, transfections viral-based gene transfer methods, and participate in high-throughput screening experiments with patient derived models, generating patient models, FACS, microscopy, mouse handling, and analyses of WES/WGS/ATAC/RNAseq data. In addition, the individual will assist with lab management responsibilities such as ordering, stocking supplies, maintaining laboratory equipment and teaching trainees to preparing reagents and solutions for the laboratory.

Must have a clear understanding of medical information privacy and security requirements.
