The Neglected Tropical Diseases Support Center (NTD-SC) supports operational research on shared issues confronting 5 diseases using funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The NTD-SC is the Secretariat for the multi-institutional Coalition for Operational Research on Neglected Tropical Diseases (COR-NTD). The COR-NTD is coordinated by the NTD-SC targeting the challenges of national NTD programs. The Events Coordinator will work with the Communications and Events Team to ensure the smooth operations of NTD-SC and COR-NTD events, including but not limited to the COR-NTD annual meeting, NTD-SC technical meetings and the Research Links meeting series, as needed.   JOB DESCRIPTION: - Coordinates the logistics necessary to plan and execute conferences, meetings, and various types of special events for a school, department, or division. - Interfaces with clients to plan events, and oversees their implementation. - May conduct pre-event site/venue tours with potential clients. - Recommends appropriate venue options based on the scope and specifications of the event. - Liaises with catering vendors, Staging staff, and other parties participating in producing the event. Oversees domestic and/or international travel arrangements for event attendees. - Acts as a primary day-of-event representative to the client before, during, and after event. - Tracks and monitors event expenses; may oversee event billing and payment processes. - Performs other related responsibilities as required. The new lead research specialist will aid joint Dr. Renee Read’s research program on brain tumor biology and genetics. The position will involve carrying out experiments as well as acting as a lab manager. Our research program uses a multidisciplinary approach to analyze how developmental cell-signaling pathways interface with mutant variants of receptor tyrosine kinases in glial tumorigenesis and glial development. Our approach uses several brain tumor model systems, including human patient-derived human glioblastoma stem cells and tissues, novel human organoid tumor models, and genetic animal models of glioblastoma. Job duties will include managing laboratory experiments with cell culture models and animal models of brain cancer, handling laboratory equipment installation and repairs, coordinating animal transfers with collaborating groups, preparing and organizing biological samples and reagents in the lab. The new research specialist will train with Dr. Read, collaborators, and senior staff, and will carry out projects and duties under the supervision of Dr. Read and her staff members. The ideal candidate will have experience with mouse genetics, neural stem cell culture, neuro-anatomy, Drosophila neuro-genetics, and/or related areas. Performs pre-award activities for a unit (school, department, or division) within a RAS unit. - Pre-award activities include, but are not limited to, assisting departmental faculty/PI in the development, preparation, and submission of grant and contract proposals. - Ensures all applications meet agency and university guidelines and published time tables and deadlines, including management of the Just-In-Time process. - Ensures proposals are entered and routed in a timely manner for further review. - Confers with PI and Pre-award support staff at collaborating institutions to secure necessary sub-awards documents for proposals. - Assists the PI in the development of budgets and budget justification which includes proofing the budget for inconsistencies and ensuring accuracy. - Reviews budgets for consistency with sponsor, monitors compliance with agency and University regulations regarding submission; verifies all financial information to include application of the appropriate overhead rate for the project. - Advises the PI on administrative requirements in preparing proposal submissions and on budget adjustments and revisions necessary to meet the sponsor requirements. - Coordinates and reviews certain proposal elements (biosketches and facilities & resources) for consistency, accuracy, and completeness. - Reviews proposals for consistency with sponsor guidelines on budget, format, font size, page limits excluding narrative content (obtain and review sponsor guidelines). - Monitors and facilitates proposal process through the routing process in compliance with University procedures and institutional signatures. - Obtains signatures as needed. - Monitors proposal status and advises PI on requirements and deadlines associated with research protection protocols. - Works effectively with other offices (central, school, departments, divisions) on research proposal. - Performs related responsibilities as required. JOB DESCRIPTION: - Handles or assists with administrative activities generally associated with the conduct of clinical trials. - Maintains data pertaining to research projects, completes source documents/case report forms, and performs data entry. - Assists with patient recruitment. - Attends study meetings. Orders and maintains equipment and supplies. - Reviews medical records and/or conducts screenings for recruitment of study participants, performs interviews and QOL questionnaires. - Collects study specimen according to protocol which may include phlebotomy, processing, and preparation for shipping. - Coordinates services, schedules procedures, creates and maintains case packages, and monitors charges. - Assists with quality assurance and tracks regulatory submissions. - Performs related approved responsibilities as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (1.) High School Diploma or GED and three years of administrative support experience OR (2.) Two years of college in a scientific, health related, or business administration program and one year of admin support or customer service experience OR (3.) Licensed as a practical nurse (LPN) and one year admin support or one year of licensed practical nursing experience OR (4.) Bachelor's degree, Master's degree, MD or PhD in a scientific, health related or business administration program.   This position is intended to support clinical research and all clinical training requirements must be tracked and monitored through Emory Healthcare under the credentialing category of CLINICAL RESEARCHER.   NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.
